I use a iPad as a "wacom"-tablet at work ever since it got a lot of great
design/productivity apps that can export stuff I make in vectors/print-pdf
etc.. a wacom tablet (with screen) isn't in a competitive price range when
it cost double and do less. I would really like a wacom tablet at work
because of the neutral touch (sensitivity etc.), intergration with full
blown Photoshop on my Mac etc., but for the price I am still hoping Apple
releases a 12-13" iPad, better for productivity/creativity
I ended up picking one up. The battery is a non-issue in my opinion.
However the tip and lag time make it a "sketch" tool more than a precision
art tool which is disappointing to me. I run it on an iPad 3 with iOS 7.
Personally I think Wacom's price for the Cintiq is (sorry, but way)
overpriced for what it is. This is because they're the primary mfg so they
are taxing the heck out of people while they can. If/when another
competitor enters the market, chances are the prices will come way down.
The Cintiq/Intuos technology is vastly superior to the Wacom technology
(yes, the Surface Pro's tech is also Wacom) in the Surface Pro and Samsung
Series 7 Slate. By the way, the Samsung Series 7 Slate was also way before
the Surface Pro and had also the same capability (with S Pen/Wacom Penabled
pen). The Intuos/Cintiq technology also offers tilt detection, so it does
not only recognize far more pressure levels, but also in what angle you
hold the pen (useful for airbrushes, etc.).
Yes, that is actually the main factor. The same pen technology as in the
Galaxy Notes is used also in professional PC-based tablets (those old
Windows Tablet PCs, or even newer ones such as the Samsung Series 7 Slate,
or ASUS EeeSlate, which both do get used as a slightly less capable "mobile
Cintiq" - at least before the Cintiq Companion was introduced). So the pen
tech is pro level, but it seems like Android's (or the CPU/GPU) hardware
isn't up to the level desired by pros.
It only appears so when you are viewing someone else draw it. I've noticed
it on my Cintiq 12WX too. When you draw yourself, the lag is not as
apparent - besides, it's dependent on software. In the program "Paint Tool
SAI" for instance, you can have either more smoothing of your lines (which
also makes it laggier because it interpolates more points), or jaggier
lines with zero lag. I suppose the brush used here just requires more
processing, therefore is laggier.
I good new way to start with a Wacom on tablets, but I doubt it could rival
with cintiq. Not saying is bad but the latency even on slow movement seem
to heavy. Sure you can adapt to it and the latency of the bamboo seem the
same but a draw back is a draw back. This one could actually get rid of the
bamboo and if the tablets mark grow it will rival the other two but as so
much like in the vid it isn't.... but the price different still is there
tho.
I agree that Wacom gear has been mainly expensive because they've held the
patent to that particular technology for too long. However, considering the
Cintiq Companion with the PC hardware in it is essentially an Ultrabook
inside a Cintiq, I think its price is actually not bad. The Android version
however seems quite expensive (though it's also cheaper than a high end
Android tablet + Cintiq 13HD combined).
blunty i know the Windows version of it is for drawing but do you think it
whould be great for gaming (with stand) please don't just say " drawing its
made for drawing not for vídeo games" , second im saving Money for a 2ds
(im not spoild like some childs on youtube "want it ,save for it") could i
get your Nintendo friend code ?(im portuguese soo im definitly not gonna
street pass with you)
Yeah, and that's actually quite a nice concept, however, it's still a very
hacked "lonely island" solution in my eyes. As far as I know the stylus
requires a battery (and traditional Wacom pens have been known to not
require batteries in the pen), and the tip is also quite thick in
comparison to actual Wacom digitizer pens. Still, it's the best you can get
for iPad probably.
Given that the pen is "Bluetooth® 4.0 Smart Technology functionality" the
"Smart" tells you that it is a bluetooth Low energy device thus if they
ever get app support on android witch is a a-big if your device needs to be
running Android 4.3 (API Level 18) and you need a bluetooth 4.0 chip in
your device. not may devices out their fit both of those categories yet.
Yeah I understand this has more features (more levels of pressure
sensitivity, an extra 3 degrees of freedom with angle sensing), however
doesn't it the fact that it's running Android, make it a toy? The OS is
currently just not capable of processing input with less than 100ms
delay... Of course the Cintiq can be used as a desktop graphics tablet too
though.
Not due to the pen tech though - the Wacom Penabled technology on the Notes
gets used on tablet PCs running Windows all the time (which get used by
professionals working in game art direction etc. that I personally know).
It's definitely not as good as Intuos Pro/Cintiq tech though. The limiting
factor is the Android OS and CPU/RAM.
Hiya! Cool video! Yup! Knew about this for a while now. Pretty damn
excited, it's exactly what I've been looking for. I notice that the latency
is a bit much, for a brand new high end Wacom brand tablet... I think my
cheapo Monoprice tablet (not a pen display but still) has better response
times. Still, very keen to give it a go.
from the info on the site for the Intuos Creative Stylus it states that it
is compatible with iPad Mini, iPad 3, iPad 4 or later. However I dont see
any reason why it theoretically could not be made to support android
devices running 4.3 with a 4.0 bluetooth chip in them but as with all
things ymmv(your mileage may very)
I have Lenovo Helix PC Tablet its same (or litle big I7 processor)
hardware, same 2000 pressure levels wacom stilus-its awesome ! Wacom its the
best, continue to make this great products ! Thank you Wacom !(Still have
little lag,byt only in bigest brush in protoshop 500 or more pix, this its
portable device)
I wonder if there is/will be some 3rd party software to use the creative
stylus+ipad combo for the same desktop-connected experience as Companion
Hybrid. I don't really need a full on cintiq experience, but something
approximating it would be nice for the occasional photo editing/notes
jotting.
Did you have any trouble drawing with your hand resting on the Hybrid's
screen? I've found (in the past, mind) the device would get distracted by
the presence of my hand and I'd have to awkwardly hover my hand (heh) above
the tablet's screen. Not the most comfortable way to draw.
Wacom's Cintiq/Intuos Pro technology is higher speced and incompatible with
Wacom's "Penabled" technology, which is the one usually built into both
(most) Windows Tablet PCs (as those old swivel screen notebook/tablet
hybrids) and Galaxy Notes.
I've been using the Wacom Bamboo Create for quite some time now. I love
using it, it's one of my favorite devices I own, and it's amazing. But, in
your own opinion, which one should I get? The Windows 8 tablet, or the
Android tablet?
Both 24HD. Well the comparison between 13HD and 12WX - first the 13HD is HD
as in wide-format HD LED display and the max resolution is 1920x1080, while
the 12WX it has TFT LCD display with max resolution 1280x800.
Fudge! I can't pick one!? Okay, this is great, but I want full Windows 8,
android, and Cintiq! Or I can get the Pen and use it with an iPad... the
Android might be good too... I can't decide! Darn you Wacom!
I've used the tablets from WACOM and I (as amateur drawer) find this a lot
more desirable than other tablets. Does the android version have standard
android functionality? That would seal the deal for me.
This is awesome!!! Finally a Wacom device where we don't need to connect
our desktop/laptop/etc. to the drawing tablet!! Damn you, Blunty.. for
being able to play around with this!! So jealous!! =D
OMG THANK YOU soooo much for posting this! I can't even begin to express
how excited I am about the hybrid, do we know yet what the price point will
be? Or when they will be available?
Wtf you talking about? The Wacom android tab has 2048 levels of of pressure
sensitivity, identical to the windows version. The "s note" BTW has a
FRACTION of that at only 128.
Well I have a cheap Bamboo Pen and I'm absolutely satisfied. A standalone
tablet might be a really nice idea. The first tablet i'd actually would
consider to buy.
