This is an inappropriate technique. The tissue is virtually useless now.
The prosector should be more careful in handling and extricating the brain
from the skull
+bianca victorio They could've been using the tissue for whole sample extracts... Shouldn't assume that all tissue dissections are for sectioning where you need the tissue intact/pristine.
+Bisterk Ding I don't think they're looking for smaller brain regions. If so, they screwed it up at the part where you need to scoop it out. If they are examining a small section, they should have used a spatula or spoon-shaped device, not the tweezers, And gently scooped it up from the front instead of stabbing it through the middle and stuff. It might be a little easier if the mouse was decapitated but it's practically impossible to harvest an in-tact brain using those tools and methods. Maybe, they're examining the whole brain, in which case, having it as a ball of mush might be ok, but that's what they ended up with and what they'd need to dig through to find any smaller brain parts.
Not using the proper tools. He or she should get a little spatula. And cut the head off so you can just put it upside down and scoop the whole thing out, not stab it and pull upwards.
