@milly1mel I have written full color picture instructions available from my
ebook on my website. There's 10 variations total in addition to wrapping
waist with satin and adding flowers. If you know the basics of sewing, I
also have a Easy Sew tutu ebook that shows how to make a filled tutu with
the flowers floating at the bottom of tutu. I hope to release video
tutorials on those versions, but at this time, I only have the full color
written version. It's easy to understand! :)
How long do you want the tutu to be. I imagine above the knee right?
Measure from your waist to the area you want the tutu to end. Multiply by
two to get your total measurement for each strip. Add an additional 2" to
that measurement to compensate for the knot you will be making. The total
number of strips based on a 24-30" waist, you'll need 96-120 strips of
tulle. You will need about 4 rolls of tulle or 19 yards of tulle from the
bolt (the kind you get from the fabric store)
@voice4truth The no sew part of the tutu is when you tie the strips on. But
you can make a completely non sew tutu, from the construction of the
waistband to the finished tutu, by using a stretchy headband. The only
problem with this is getting a headband that fits the childs waist. Most
headbands will fit childs waist, but may be too large for a baby or too
small for an adult.
@megfrump99 There's really no way to know if it's soft. But having some
stiffness to it is best because when it's too soft, it starts to fray and
tangle up too easily. Look for the 100% nylon tulle that's made in the USA.
The online websites that have "Made in The USA" usually have the better
quality tulle with just the right amount of stiffness/softness. Hope this
helps!
@JAZZMINE14 I just seen your message. I know it's a late response. :(
Elastic can be purchased at craft store or fabric store. The elastic comes
in a package enough for a few tutus. Amount to use depends on the size of
the girls waist. The length is tough to say as you will have to measure
from waist to the part you want it to end.
HI! I am curious, if I am looking to order the tulle on-line, how do I know
if it's soft? I know that they make different kinds. I look up soft tulle,
but don't see anything that ensures me it's soft... wonder if you can help
me with this. They have so many more colors on-line than in the stores...
Thank you!!
I wish I could add more videos, but at this time, I don't have access to a
video camera. :( I sell the flower filled tutorial in my Easy Sew Ebook and
the empire waist can be found in my non sew tutu ebook at my website.
Website can be found in description. Thanks!
@RemixxGlamGal Yes you can do with lace, ribbon.. However it depends on the
lace... it's possible it might fray at the edges. But It's worth a try! I
think that would look cute! :) I'm not sure about the mesh... maybe the
stretchy mesh material will work
@girlsrox2009 This can be 100% non sew if you use a stretchy headband for
the waistband. This option may not work completely for all waist sizes as
headbands vary in width. You may also use thinner elastic and tie both ends
together.
If you want the tutu hitting mid thigh, it will probably be about 13"-14"
(26" -28" total). I'm 5'6" and measured 15". You should measure her from
the waist to mid thigh or longer to get an exact measurement. Hope this
helps.
I know you said 11" (23" total) for length, but what would you recommend if
I want to make the tutu for a teenager who is 5'5"? Thanks for doing this
video! GREAT WORK! Will be purchasing your PDF files in the near future!
Where do we get the elastic or waist band at? & the tule . what about that.
where do we get that. and how much do we get. its for a teenager. 5"6 tall.
need help. please help. I need to make a tutu in less than a week.!(:
@SmiLebxtChh I don't have any video on it, but the peacock is the same
technique as the triple layer/turkey tutu that I show in my ebook. There's
step by step photos with the written instructions next to the photos. :)
@thokha02 The only way to make a petal filled tutu is to either glue petals
throughout the layers of a non sew tutu or to sew a petal filled tutu which
can be found in my Easy Sew version of my books.
@AhManosa The list of the basic tutu is found at the beginning of the
video. If you want to learn more about other supplies needed for the other
styles of tutus, you can find that in the ebook. :)
You can buy at a fabric store, in the Michael's Craft Store Bridal Area
(quality is not the greatest) or do a search online using the terms, "roll
of tulle", "tulle ribbon", "tulle spool".
I am in roller derby and my first bout is coming up this weekend, I would
like to make a tutu for my derby outfit. My waist is 28 inches, how much
tulle do you think I'll need? -Kaya :)
Thank you sooo much!! I use to use the ribbon to make my tutus and then I
went to use the 1" elastic and I couldnt figure out for the life of me how
to tie it on! Thank you xoxo

@thehamiltontwins Sorry for the late response. If you're just starting,
then it might take you up to 3 hours each tutu. Cutting tulle takes the
longest. Save time by cutting thick cardboard to length you want your tutu
to be and the width of the cardboard should be about 8-10 inches. Tape one
end of the tulle to one of the cardboard edges and wrap around the
cardboard until you empty about a 1/4 of the tulle roll. Use sharp fabric
scissors and cut one end the tulle through multiple layers.
Thanks, I'll try that. My husband came up with an idea as well, just don't
know how it will work either. He said why not double the elastic and just
sew it together in about four places to keep it together but leave in the
stretch. I am going to try both ways. If that doesn't work, the larger
sizes will just have to be made on ribbon instead. I don't want my product
to suffer because there is too much tulle. I recently did a 48" waist. Cut
the elastic 5 in short, then sewed. Never again.
@maqsizu Hello again, the non sew ebook I have for sale shows how to make a
turkey tutu aka triple layer technique, which can be used to make a peacock
tutu... just change the colors. I also show how to make a regular tutu
dress and an empire waist tutu dress. For the imperial tutu, you can follow
the onesie tutu technique in the Easy Sew ebook by sewing the tulle layers
to the lycra bodysuit. But you do need to sew. Or just make a regular tutu
and wear it over a bodysuit. :)
There's a video on youtube that shows how to make a pancake tutu. You're
talking about the ballerina style that flairs completely to the side right?
You can make a regular tutu using the instructions in my video and then buy
some wire that you can find in hardware or craft store. It will probably
cost you $10-$15 to make. I can't add a link but if you type in "pancake
tutu" in the youtube search, it will pull it up. The thumnail is a photo of
a pretty yellow tutu.
Very professional. I agree with the double knotted tulle. It makes a much
fluffier tutu that stand out and I have no complaints from my customers.
Lately, I have had several orders from adults waning tutus and find that
the elastic stretches horribly with as much tulle as I put on mine. Triple
layers. Do you have any ideas on how to keep the elastic from stretching so
much? I have been sewing up and down on my elastic to fortify it. Any other
idea?
@miamichild59 I've never tried making an adult tutu using more than one
layer. I think you might want to start off cutting the elastic a few inches
more than the waist measurement and sew the ends together. Once you have
the desired amount of knots tied on, then you can cut the elastic down. I
believe that will keep the elastic from overstretching. This is just a
theory for larger waist sizes. I would love to hear if this works for you.
:)
I would cut the elastic a couple of inches shorter than the measurement.
Let's say it's 56" from one end of the tray to the other side. You would
cut the elastic about 53". I would also hand sew extra long ribbon on each
end of the elastic so you're able to bring it around to the back of the
chair and tie a nice bow. I would also add some adhesive velcro or double
stick tape to the tutu and the high chair to keep it from slipping off.
Im a photographer and I am getting more newborns. I am going to make
tutu-strips!!! ( so you can just lay them over the baby instead of trying
to put them "on" the body. I think I will only need about 12 inch strips
which will allow me to experiment with different fabrics. I live the
peacock!!! I even have some feathers!!! matching head bands!
@graacceee Sorry for the late response! I'm using 3/4". One inch is not too
big. The width of the elastic determines how thick the waistband will look.
There's a lot of customers of mine that using 1.5" and some that use less
than 1/2". It all depends on how you want it to look. I think 3/4" is
pretty standard and safe.
I used strips of a bunch of garbage bags, with some ribbon tied at the top
for some pazzaz! I also used this elastic that can e adjusted. Its realy
pretty because with the bags you already have a whole bunch of layers and
all you do is just poof it out[: its really pretty, i made it for my little
cousin for thanksgiving
I missed your comment until now. Sorry! You can add just three tutus on top
of each other or you can use the triple layered tutu technique from my
ebook. I wish I could explain the technique, but it's in the ebook and
there's a lot of steps and a lot of photos that I can't post in the youtube
comment section.
@mireillemt All tulle will feel pretty scratchy. You just have to make sure
you're not purchasing the tulle with the large netting. For a liner you can
use a slip underneath the tutu. Or you can take lining fabric of some kind
and sew underneath the tutu at the waist.
Could you make a video ir tell ne how I can make highchair tutu? I really
need help on how big the waist band should be. I neasure & my highchair is
56 inches but to me thats alot! You xan post it on here or email me at
Chambless2006@Hotmail or Gmail.com
My ebook has the exact measurements... You can get exact measurements by
measuring child from waist to the point you want it to end at. :) 1 year
old would probably be 8-10" long...just an estimate...don't have my size
chart in front of me right now.
@mschippie656 If you're using the slipknot technique, it's pretty good at
staying tied. I've never had trouble with the slipknots coming untied or
loose, even when kids are running around in it. The double knot technique
will definitely stay on.
I know you said 11" (23" total) for length, but what would you recommend if
I want to make the tutu for a teenager who is 5'5"? Thanks for doing this
video! GREAT WORK! Will be purchasing your PDF files in the near future!
@thehamiltontwins Repeat with the remaining tulle roll. You'll have tons of
tulle to work with and just sit down in front of the TV and tie your tulle
to the waistband. 33 is a lot but it's possible to make by Tuesday.
@maqsizu @maqsizu I don't show how to make a four layer tutu only because
it will be too bulky at the waist. The only way to achieve a 4 layer tutu
is to sew. I do show the triple layer tutu in the non sew ebook. :)
