I really enjoy JC3. Sure it can get repetitive at times, but I always
return to it after a day or two. It does what it wants to do quite well.
And sure it might not be too different from JC2, but so what? Why is it ok
for sports games, Call of Duty, Assassin's Creed, Need for speed etc to do
the same thing over and over every year, but it's not ok for JC3? Even if
it's been years since the last game? Even Mario and Zelda repeats the
forumla every single time, and people are happy about it. Hell, we are
getting Zelda: Twilight Princess again for the THIRD time, and people are
happy. But JC3 still being a JC-game? The horror! WTF?
+ChrisRedfield I think you're over reacting, they released the Wii and Gamecube versions because the Wii and Twilight Princess were so close in their launch date, sure they probably made some money off people who bought the same game twice but it was more or less because of the short span between the game and the Wii, not for money. I do disagree with remastering a game that was only one console generation ago, even if it was early in the life span of the Wii. But the list of dumb shit like that is almost endless Last of Us Remastered anyone? Though I think the point of this debate has gotten pointless, as it has nothing to do with JC3 anymore. It's not that hard to grasp why JC3 is worse than Zelda in this regard. Just Cause has a very simple game play style, you casually go in and blow shit up. Addictive surely, but nothing deep. So doing the almost exact same simple thing three times in a row is a tad bit annoying, at least Zelda has a bit of depth to justify it. Not completely though
+Creedbringer Oh, wait. I think I get it. Do you believe they a re relasing the same game for the third time to be nice? If so, I hate to break it to you, but they are doing it for the money. Releasing an old game all over again is quick and cheap, and it can sell a lot to new players. Re-releasing TP a third time isn't being nice. It's a quick cash-grab from a doomed console, just like Wind Waker. Why do you think we got the Wii-games all over again on virtual console on Wii U? To be nice? Nope, to sell a few more copies. That's it. It has everytning to do about making a quick buck, and nothing about making us happy. If you idiots buy it, they'll sell it. Simple as that. Why do you think Nintendo has gone all-out on the amiibo, despite admitting very few actually uses them in games? People buy them, so Nintendo sells them - at a high price, as, again, you idiots are more than willing to pay for them. This is marketing at its most basic. First find out what people want (before they know it themselves, preferably), then find the perfect spot where you sell as many copies as you can, to as high price as possible. Meaning if they increase the price, they'll sell less and make less money. But if they lower the price, they'll sell more and still make less money. So if they can re-release a game for the sixth time and still make money of it, they probably will. That's why we are getting all these endless HD-remakes in the first place. Stupid people with tons of money. Why spend time and money on something new, when idiots are more than willing to pay up for the same, old crap all over again and again and again?Hell, this is why we get new Call of Duty's and new Fifa's every year. People buy them, even if they are essentially the same game every single time. People buy it, so they sell it.
+ChrisRedfield Twilight Princess was released on the Gamecube and Wii so anyone could buy them, they were pretty much the same give or take. It was just done to widen the demographic of who could buy it and I have no problems with that, they didn't want your money twice just pick what version you need or want. And HD ports have been around for a while, at least you know what you're getting from an old game remastered, a new game, however, needs to bring a lot more to the table, especially at a steep price.
+TotalBiscuit, The Cynical Brit Completely disagree. There is a reason why products like smartphones are sold at different tiers. People don't compare a flagship smartphone to a budget one without considering the price. The price of a product matters when discussing its value. Why should that be any different with games? There are things that people expect in a full 60 dollar game compared to say if it was only 10.
+Michael Jepsen The problem is the pricepoint is really subjective. Everyone has their own ideas in their head about what is worth their money and what isn't. The only thing you can do as a critic is try to explain the games value proposition and then let viewers decide whether or not that matches up to their expectations.
I disliked Just Cause 2 because all you did was blow stuff up and do crappy
side missions. After 6 hours, the game was boring. I'd prefer if the just
cause games had a stronger story element but that's obviously not what the
games aims to accomplish
+MasterJohn Yup. It's purely about finding more and more creative ways of blowing shit up and hanging those pesky peasants off your jet. I never finished JC2 because I too got bored with doing the same thing over and over. But I do start up the game once in a while, when i am stress out mostly, just to go BOOM for half an hour.
Star Wars Battlefront Video Review
Star Wars Battlefront Video Review EG Curator Page on Steam: //store.steampowered.com/curator/905597-Elder-Geek.com/ Outro music from this episode ...
+geemailMossman DICE Sweden had some work on Battlefield: Hardline so that statement of yours was false. Also, Battlefront is essentially Battlefield: Hardline in terms of how much it will flop. Servers will be dead in a couple weeks, guarantee.
OK stats are stats I'm enjoying the game.Pro gamers are enjoying the gameDice have never left me downGardline was not dice (Sweden)The game is fun and I look forward to the dlcLong live dice....
+geemailMossman Well, he isn't. Battlefront had a 30% cancel in pre-orders after the Beta. Not to mention, it sold underwhelmingly low at Gamestop. Also, A LOT of People that purchased it on Origin refunded their Battlefront. Regardless of whether or not you like the Game, Elder-Geek was correct about Battlefront flopping like Titanfall due to wasted potential.
+jim gordon I'm mixed race and when I hear someone shouting slurs when they're getting dunked on in Warzone I just take it in my stride cos they're angry they're losing. I still just wish they wouldn't tho. But then again it shows they're invested in the game.
+Damilare WILLIAMS-SHIRES the racism of that statement is still relative. If black people are offending by the word nigger, they shouldn't use it as 25% of there vocabulary. That's simply hypocrisy, and ironicly racist against white people. So its all about your personal identification of the meaning of a slang term.
+jim gordon I know they probably aren't actually racist people. But why is it the first thing you shout when your getting dunked on in COD is "Bitch Nigger"?
EA's fucking stupid. Western games fucking blow now because of the way the
publishers are. They have absolutely ZERO soul, no content, no polish,
won't work once the servers close, and are blatantly just only concerned
with profit.
+The Zedd Productions I know that. My comment was just referring to the fact that Elder-Geek keeps saying that people want the future story to continue.
It seems a bit contradictory to say you loved the gloomy atmosphere so much
you wanted it in first person, and then say the city is really forgettable
and lifeless.
Ding ding ding! I guess he got so carried away shitting all over this game ( I know he said some positive things as well ) plus when he said the brother and sister must have slept together for the story to make sense wow! Assassin's Creed hasn't been about reliving your ancestors moments sense AC 3. AC Black Flag and Rogue explained that in full detail. Anyway in my opinion this is the best Assassin's Creed in a while up there with AC 2 and Black Flag.
That intro was so incredibly stupid..... When will people realize that
taking AC in a setting where guns are dominant would completely ruin the
series? Its always been about melee combat. ANYTHING that's set in 20th or
21st century will never happen. Sure you can have short sections in those
centuries but the fact is that a full game will never be in a setting where
guns are the primary form of combat and cars are the primary mode of
transportation.
+Elder-Geek.comThey have guns but not advanced enough to turn the focus away from melee combat. Kinda surprised they even made it work in Syndicate. In 20th and 21st century, we have fully automatic weapons like assault rifles and sub machineguns. Those would definitely take the focus away from melee combat.
" Its always been about melee combat."Except for all the pistols carried by the Fryes, Kenway, and Connor, and the wrist gun that Ezio had, and the grenade launcher in Assassin's Creed Rogue...
I was one of those holding onto the franchise in the hopes that it would
improve. Thanks for the review Randy, this will be the first AC entry I'll
be passing up. Definitely getting tired of the same old thing from this
game. Black Flag took it in a great direction, and I want to see more of
that! Unfortunately, that isn't happening here. I can't believe all the
high marks I'm seeing for this game on other review sites, all the while
realizing that it's probably just another junk installment in this tired
franchise and the reviewers are just letting their fanboyism show through.
We need some originality folks...
This is actually up their with AC2 and Black Flag in the upper echelon of Assassin's Creed, for the most part, I agree with most of this channels reviews, but he's dead wrong on this one. Every change made from Unity was for the better and the story is actually good post past and present day.
+biggat4 You do realize the entire format of this "review" series is to present a comedic version of a game review, and not to offer a serious review of the game? After all, it's titled, "Fox Kinda Reviews..." The "Kinda" implies "not entirely." Also, my other series is titled, "Fox Seriously Reviews..." I can't imagine that the humor of this review passed you by ...
It's quite unfair to call Lords of The Fallen the first soulslike, when
that's Severance from 2001 xD A really great, albeit clunky game with
awkward controls, but it is still worth playing.
+FoxeoGames I was joking about Severance being a Soulslike, even if I find it a lot like Dark Souls. It sure has a lot of different things, like the Street Fighter-like input for special moves, but to me it has the same methodical field to it, except shield breaking is an actual part of the combat. It even had a secret level and boss! When I talk to people who want a new Souls... thing, I always make sure to recommend them Severance. A lot haven't played it it seems, and my friends Souls fans seem to like it. ^^
I've played Severance: Blade of Darkness. I don't think it's as similar to a Souls game as you're saying. Also, Severance cannot be inspired by a game that came out over 8 years later. Lords of the Fallen is clearly inspired by Dark Souls (at least in the combat), and this is something the developers have stated themselves.
That was the list of games DEVELOPED by CIGames (formerly City Interactive Games). Your snarky little comment was not only rude, but wrong. Don't post rude comments. You know better.
I don't venture outside my bubble enough to know if it's common, but what's
up with the ads in the game's intro? Is that a "thing" these days? Those
poor kids running this on a Digital Storm machine with Radeon cards totally
missing out on how it's meant to be played and knowing it's not at its
best.
Oh, totally - I wasn't familiar with the technical side of PhysX on NVidia cards, but have heard the slogan to death. I do recall seeing NVidia logos in game intros, as well. That does make sense.Alienware, though? That just seems like a gratuitous plug every time you fire up the game; I packaged both into a single generalization. It seems like that kind of thing can leave you with egg on your face as a company, too, especially considering all the issues you and a number of others have called out. "_This_ buggy crap is 'plays best?' Eep ... "Thanks for the knowledge, man.
"The way it's meant to be played" has been NVIDIA's slogan for a long time now. It's not merely marketing rhetoric, either; there are actual reasons they can claim this. For example, many games are optimized specifically for NVIDIA. They play fine on AMD, but player better on NVIDIA. Secondly, and more importantly, the PhysX engine will only run efficiently on NVIDIA graphics cards. You can try to run it off your CPU, but it's pretty much unusable. So, actually, there's something to be said about the slogan being more than marketing rhetoric.

Might I suggest that you are doing the combat way to often. I played
through the campaign on hard and only did each mission once. Im overflowing
with the special resources that I get every time I upgrade my corperation
level. All my production buildings are maxed out on modules. Also if you
build enough temparate houses to upgrade your level, money wont be a
problem.
Actaually I should add to this you dont have to do the combat at all. When you get the first mission they also give the option to advance in level to progress with the story, youll get the same amount of the special resources.
Well I know you take your professionalism very seriously but I would've thought one of the potential benefits of remasters is that if you've played the originals, you don't need to finish everything in the remasters to get a representative sense of their quality.
I never taught an Anno game can crush my expectation so much, when the
sweet memories of Anno 1404 is still in me, compared to the previous Annos,
this is a shallow bag of asses, it looks good, runs exceptionally, but its
for DUMMIES its so dumbed down is probably age 6+ because there is no
micromanagement basically they took everything that made Anno Anno, its
basically, build more houses to get more people, ohh more people, build
more food and drink, wow you unlocked a new building, now go do some
mindless boring bullcrap side-quest to not die of border after the spell of
fancy graphics ware off after 3-4 hours i felt like i know everything this
game can offer and its shit...
On the note im not here to offend anyone, if you liked the game im happy
for you, i wish i did too, its felt like the new SimCity crap EA pulled...
this game feels so dumbed down , it could be run on tablets cause there
inst much you can do..... no online no skirmish... this is NOT Anno to
me... as a big Anno fan
Gonna install Anno 1404....again for the 235325 time
+Barilon ZermasimoOh ok, indeed you only have to worry about about balancing the buildings now. I don't regret having to build fire stations and hospitals everywhere so that every single building is covered, adn its easier to understand what ressource you need now... however slowly gaining territory and compete against other powers and pirates was fun. It was better when everything happened on the same map too... They should keep some improvements and overall go back to the old system.
+jeanfroissart1 thats not really the reason, but, no fire, no sick people, resorces are instant, you can build wherevere you want wouthout any logic, it doesnt matter how you build roads.... and everything will be perfect anyways, it didnt feel like its because of me, its because its so simple and dumped down, yes that was a part of all the anno games i wrote, and a LOT more you had to manage and not just that
+Barilon Zermasimo "build more houses to get more people, ohh more people, build more food and drink"I totally agree that 1404 is better but that reason you gave is not the most objective, all anno games are like that.
+Christopher Cook This is almost definitely not a Ubisoft decision. It's not a microtransaction and it's not an open-world mechanic. It's also very deeply integrated into the module system, which makes me think the actual development team, rather than the marketing team, made the decision based on some design choice of breaking the game's pace or something.
+bladexdsl Well I got the game not too long after leaving this comment, and I freaking hate the combat portion. The actual building and whatnot is brilliant, but the combat is shite. If it had decent RTS mechanics then I would breeze through the missions quickly, but it just sucks. It puts a massive damper on an otherwise excellent Anno game (dare I say, one of the best simulators)
+fiskefyren I never said they were perfect. Besides, the condom thing isn't about science (they have advised people to have responsible planning and advocates what is pretty much the Rhythm Method) it's about church doctrine: excessive Lust is a sin, and sex should be used mostly for reproduction to limit said Lust. Condoms have the sole purpose of preventing reproduction so you can enjoy sex without worrying. It's the same reason they don't like adultery and premarital sex: Lust.Do I agree with them? No. But in that case its not a science issue.
+fiskefyrenIt is a bit sad, but, speaking personally as an agnostic that leans towards atheism, I think it is just as sad that so many people have a misrepresented idea of modern religion. On both sides.Science-wise it didn't start to get bad until recently, with Christian Fundamentalism in the 1920's and Islamic Extremistism not being popular until the 1950's as an extreme reaction to Anti-Westernism caused by all of our Cold War and even pre-WW2 Shenanigans in the Middle East. And you can argue just how bad it is at all. The Catholic Church has a whole bunch of scientists with Phds working in Vatican City for example, as part of that whole learning how the universe works to see how God works thing.Edit: As an example of how people reconciled Science and Technology as late as 1889, in Mark Twain's A Conneticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court, the main character is a very devout Presbyterian who recreates all the Protestant churches in Medieval England due to his belief in the 1st amendment, but at the same time is a very knowledgeable scientist and engineer who continuously mocks how superstitious these people are and how they believe everything is a miracle from God.Which itself wasn't really true of the actual Catholic Church of the time but Protestants from that era tended to show the Catholics as backwards and science only progressing under the Protestants the same way we now show Christians in general as backwards and not progressing until the Secularists.
+fiskefyren That's not really true. The Catholic Church protected and studied the Romans and Greeks scientific advances and made many of their own. Monks pretty much did nothing but study, and it was official Catholic doctrine that since God made the universe it was their duty to better understand God by learning how the universe worked. It was also official Catholic doctrine that witchcraft and magic didn't exist. The whole Religion vs Science thing first started during the Protestant reformation and everything turned chaotic for a while, and witchcraft burnings started. And it didn't really become common for people to believe religion and science were opposed until the 1920's when Christian Fundamentalism started because all the mainstream churches were too liberal. The Pope for example supported evolution in the 1870's. Also during the medieval ages were the Islamic Golden Age, when a veritable scientific revolution was going on in the Islamic world. And before you respond with "But Galileo!" Galileo wasn't arrested for promoting the heliocentric system (which was originally created by a Canon named Copernicus) he was put under house arrest (which didn't change much as he was an introvert who rarely left his study room) because he tried to rewrite the bible to conform to his at the time unproven and as it turned out, seriously flawed (seriously his tidal system was messed up) theory and wrote a book outright insulting the pope, who had actually been his sponsor at the time.
+Sam T Indeed. If anything, Bretonnian Knights are the "Space Marines" of Fantasy. The Empire is like the IG. Chaos warriors are very much the Chaos Space Marine equivalent, as they are sealed inside their armor and given super strength, like a Space Marine. You have to stretch it a bit, but you have the right of it. :)
+fiskefyren Most of the Imperium's "primitive" military technology is far above Warhammer Fantasy's. Warhammer 40k can equip their most primitive cavalry with explosive lance tips and laser weaponry while Warhammer fantasy thinks gunpowder is the new hottest thing. Also Chaos warriors are the most primitive relying on the steel they carry and the favor of their gods to protect them.
+Sam T Isn't the imperium lost in the Dark Ages? I don't think they have made anything new in quite a while... as you may know, religion doesn't really make progress, it only regress technology.
+fiskefyren Warriors of Chaos are like their grumpy fathers complaining how the Chaos Space Marines have it easy with all their new fangled technology :)
+Ciaran Byrne You just start a game with bots, and as long as you have your session set to open, random players will join as you go, drop in, drop out style.
