I'm very ashamed to say... I hadn't heard of many of these places and I've
lived in England my whole life. I think Jared did pretty well overall
though!
+sixandahalfmiles It was amazing how many places I didn't know, and I couldn't place most of them at all, even ones that I thought I knew! He didn't do too badly. Should have made this video when he'd just stepped off the boat so to speak haha
Of course the ONE time the "W" isn't silent is in "Wetwang" - you cheeky
Brits! :P Really fun stuff, Eleana! Hope you guys had a great Halloween!
What'd you end up doing? Are you gonna release a video on that?
+Aria Inthavong It's typical isn't it! I had an enjoyable Halloween but it was nothing video worthy I'm afraid. Just hanging out with strangers and playing a British version of beer pong. Can't wait to make Christmas videos though! That's my holiday right there
This will probably end up in your spam box because it will take way too
long to write individual comments promoting this so HI spam box … I will
try and not make this too long (even though it will probably be long so i
don't blame you for skipping through this...just go to the link if you
can't read this really long comment XD)So to the point, i have been working
really hard on this promotion video for a project i have been doing for
Brittani Louise Taylor and need YOU (yes YOU) to spread the word so that
she can hopefully see itand finally here is the link (also well done if you
have read this whole comment): https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=6H3Yi_vYG7A
+Sophie Lizz I've brought it out the spam box! Also half the message is you saying it's going to be a long message haha! I'll go check it out!
USA Vs. British Place Names | BOTS
This week Jake and I played the "Place Pronunciation" game in another episode of Battle of the Sexes. Things got hot, hilarious and naked at one point.
Pronunciation of English Names Part 1
//www.AmericanAccentCourse.com presents "How to Pronounce Several 1 Syllable American English Names." For people who learned English as a second ...
It's like I make the /oy/ and then the /oɪ/ or the /ey/ and /eɪ/, but it
sounds really the same to me, the /oy/ and /ey/. You show off this
pronunciation but dictionaries don't. But I had already noticed it. Is it
really a /oy/ and /ey/ sound when pronouncing them or just a matter of
interpretation as they will sound the same(I guess) whatever you are making
a /oy/ or /oɪ/? I hope you got me right! Thanks a lot! I love english! :D
I'd like the answer of a native speaker (you, sheri) about this. When you
say words with the oy and ey diphthong(Boy, Noise, Make, Bay, Tape) do you
really make a /oy/ sound or you make a /oɪ/ sound although the sounds sound
the same you just interchange these sounds? Well, I don't know. It seems me
the same sound when I just switch them in my mind.
Actually /oy/ is the same as /oɪ/ and /ey/ is the same as /eɪ/. They are
just 2 different kinds of phonetic alphabets. I use the American Phonetic
Alphabet because it has some elements that make more sense when using
American English. :-)
Aussie over here doing very well at this challenge and feeling all kinds of
proud. But to be fair the ones I'm getting right are all the ones I've
heard of, so Godmanchester (sp?) really stumped me.
As a Scot I feel bad that I haven't heard of half these places and some I
had heard of I had no idea that was how they were spelt. I need to travel
round the country more.
should have gave them this one, tahquamenon falls :P
Stupid pronunciation of UK Place names
Like a lot of English speaking countries, the UK has lots of incomprehensible place names) NOT stupid stuck up posh brit criticising pronounciations as we get it ...
@RobertJFreemantle My sisters University Alumni magazine was called
'Reading Reading' :P. Somewhere along the lines we left our language open
to interpretation, whoops! Apparently there are 50 or so deifinitions for
the word 'set'. It could be worse, We could have a poem called "Lion-Eating
Poet in the Stone Den" that no one except a confident Chinese speaker could
understand.
New conspiracy theory for you, seeing as you'll believe anything as long as
'Do your research' means looking at Youtube videos. How about the qwerty
keyboard wasn't designed to slow down typewriters but is in fact a tool of
the 'illumamediaberg'. Q = Quiet. W = Work. E = Earth Total Mind Control R
= Renumeration T = Totalinariansim Y = Yes
The entire English language is a bit of a deranged bastard generally. Look
at these words. Minute = 60 seconds Minute = very small Reading = A place
in England Reading = A practice some behave upon books. And so on. It
bothers me how kids are taught phonics in school and then they get annoyed
when they see "the truth", beyond. lol.
"Don't argue with the messenger" that seems like fascism to be if I were to
take this at face value. PS people who repeat 'Do your research' ad nauseum
without any counterpoint aren't worth dealing with.
Also the 60 odd million inhabitants are seen as fictional entities under
law , an artificial person. And are in a state induced trance with help
from the so called education system and Tell-Lie-Vision
Do your research. Dont argue with the messenger . Look see , check it out.
The crown is also a corporation , as well as the police force , they are
trading for profit on Dunn and bradstreet .
I learn everything before even went on a computer numb nuts lol. Everyone
presumes I am as dumb as them . Go back to sleep . Go Dig deeper before you
say more that make look stupid .......
Oh what next, you'll tell me I am a slave to 'Faux News'? despite not
living in the United States or having a satellite receiver capable of
receiving such a station? Get a new hobby.
My webcam is shit and because I filmed it at night there was no natural
light so had to rely on the light of an energy saving bulb which makes
everything yellow :(
