Thanks for the video! Very informative and helpful. I've been walking past the leaking faucet at my house and wondering how I was going to fix it. Now I know! Thanks for including Charlie (he's the coolest).

Thanks to your "blooper" at the end, I now realized that what is leaking on my faucet is this packing nut you mention since the water is leaking out of the top near the "turny thingy", lol. Thanks! Loved the video, your co-host, and the dogs. :-)

You're using the Channellockjs wrong. When you tighten the packing nut, the torque is trying to force the jaws ioen. Flip the wrench over, and your musclepower will try to force the jaws together. Yeah, it took me *years* to learn how to use channellocks correctly, and I SATILL have to think about it, it's not "on autopilot".

Are those 90 degree fittings with the small tap used for any other purpose? I know that you use it here for this application to vent the steam. But are they used for anything else, like tapping for a nice maker/filtered water on a refrigerator, or for draining the line to the outdoor faucet? Would you recommend that your customers shut OFF the outdoor faucets with the indoor valves during the winter? Is there any benefit to turning them off inside the house as well, besides making it harder for someone to tamper with your faucet and turn it on outside?

Great video, what is that white thing you put between the sillcock and the siding at 7:45? I assume that you're using it to make the sillcock level or slightly pitched down.

The cover keeps the outside cold out. The warmth comes from the water and the pipes from inside the house. The cover prevents the cold from penetrating into the pipe and up the wall. They really do work. I have had frost proof faucets break in the winter more than once, but not since I have used these faucet covers. Give it a try, they really do work and cost only a few dollars. Replacing broken faucets can easily run you $150 each, and include a lot of hassle.

WOOF - 1937 home....if it's not one thing it's another! Thanks for the insight to untwist/open the knob all the way.......... I was in a panic and it managed to work, albeit the gaskets have to be as old as 1937.

Worked for me, just glad it was not a washer. Easier to replace the whole faucet than one of those washers.

+Barb C Yes, have the valve fully open when adjusting the nut, or you will crush one of the lower gaskets.
https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-X4iC3Y_XXVo/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAABE/XfjhKS0hxSg/photo.jpg?sz=64
you could see the packing nut was loose when you opened the valve. Did you loosen it for making the video?
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XdUIqdMkCWA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/4252rscbv5M/photo.jpg?sz=64
+Quiet Ghouls probably.
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-zmdBP0bo8TU/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAASE8/Mnu5NiAppgg/photo.jpg?sz=64
I have the opposite problem.. mine is leaking when the hose is off. Its not at the hose connection but it's at the actual handle. I also notice on mine you can move/push the handle slightly and it leaks more/less. It looks like someone put some sort of quick weld material on the nut that holds the handle on... any suggestions? I'm a female yes but I'm pretty handy at fixing things. Thanks!
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XdUIqdMkCWA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/4252rscbv5M/photo.jpg?sz=64
+Jennifer Pitts Jennifer replace the faucet.  Sounds like yours may have frozen or just age.  By the fact someone put the weld material on the nut I would toss it.  Frost free faucets are not that expensive.
https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-_-5FV4lp1mM/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAGk/xW_2fwWrfyg/photo.jpg?sz=64
It could be the valve seat washer needs replaced. Check out this photo to see the parts. //www.pioneerdad.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/Internal-parts-of-faucet.jpgIn my video it was the packing washer or compression washer that was leaking. That is something also to look at. Turn your house water off, and you can remove these parts to examine/replace.

taking possession of a house at end of december. it has a stand alone spigot towards the back of the yard. do you have a video of winterizing these remote spigots? I'm going to ask the inspector as well this week. I should probably just make it a condition of sale that they winterize it since temps are already in the 30-40s.
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-kO9RkUoDqmM/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAABc/L2QKfq7X0gU/photo.jpg?sz=64
+DirtFarmerJay I went on the home inspection. Turns out they are just extension points to link multiple hoses from the front of the house. The previous owners seemed to do a lot of experimenting. Partial chicken coop, wild flower area, rose bush area, raised garden with hoops.

+First Last, sorry to not have gotten to you faster. I don't have a video, but let's see if we can help. First, if you system has a "stop and waste" valve, then the line should drain back and evacuate sufficient water to eliminate broken pipes due to them being full of ice. If you don't have the stop and waste, you can use compressed air to blown into one open spigot that is on the same line to blow the water out the remote spigot (which is also open). Hope this helps! Best, DFJ

Kevin, I'm glad you like the videos. I'll put repair of the old faucet on the list and show you how to take apart the faucet and replace the parts inside. It will be a bit until I can get to it, but I'll put it on the list. Thanks for watching!
