Zoanthids are probably the most propagated corals and for good reason. They are one of the toughest corals that presents in a great variety of colors which ...
Zoanthid Polyp Feeding
Do you think that Zoanthids are benefitting from direct feeding as I've shown here? Let me know in the comments below. I still feed just about all my corals, but as ...
I've got a zoanthid that has been closed for about 2 weeks. what causes
this and how can I get it to open. tank has been running for 3 months with
other softies
Watch your zoas at night once lights have been off a while they open up
slightly yeap with their heads shaped like a tube !! ... Zoas they take
substrate ie sand particles and calcium and mud particles best to use FIJI
or Caribsea mud...Ima have FIJI mud mixed with Caribsea mud and a decent
handful or just more FIJI Gold calcium mixed in with the mud in one of my
small hang on sumps this will sound crazy but truth is Zoas take substrate
through their skin so just before you put lights out suck up a small amount
of mud mixed with some extra fine aragonite sand only and put in a cup not
much dunni go overboard as they do not take much at all mind mix some good
bacterie into mixture... Anyhow just before you put the lights out take
some of your mixed substrate into your turkey baster turn off pumps (water
flow just for a wee while 20 to 30 mins not even that) and position your
turkey baster over your colonies and frag polyps and sprinkle over yeap
making sure it goes over the polyps and even in-between yeap they close
dunni worry this is just a natural defence reaction which is healthy and do
not smother polyps ie bury them as you just want enough like dust icing a
cake lightly eh then sit back watch polyps half open to nearly open then
get condensed amount of copepods in your turkey bastor next hover tip of
baster just above polyps the copepods come out naturally or with a very
gentle slow squeeze not to blow the substrate away the pods mostly will
swim off but dunni worry again as long as even a few land apon around the
polyps that is success then switch your lights OFF !! here is the magic the
polyps will close but within 20 mins they will open like aforementioned at
night yeap pods will crawl over your polyps and into the heads like a venus
fly trap they crawl in and dumbly some will go into the mouth eh ahahaha
also at the same time the polyps absorb substrate nano particles through
their skin long lashed palys you can see them take larger grains up their
body and actually feed them selfs but it is a slow process dunni wait up as
it is over several hrs some can do this...Do this once a week and also
target feed GOOD bacteria mixed in with the mud eh... In the wild the sea
carries nano particles of sand and mud and the zoas take it in to help
strengthen their structure yeap if you have ever watched a deep sea ROV
apon the floor you can see an infinite amount of pods bouncing about the
sea floor yeap you got it nature is EPIC AWESOME !!...your zoas will perk
up over a month or so and brighten up and even morph brighter colors trust
me if not try it just with a small crappy colony eh and watch and learn
from nature she is the BOSS !! but dunni forget to blast the excess
substrate off after a day and a half to two days at least just as nature
would eh the polyps might look a wee bit tired for a few days after but
then BOOM they get strong and bloom... Hope your corals epically bloom for
you... ""Polyps are unique in that they use sand and other substrate
material into their tissue to help create their actual structure ...They
contain the symbiotic algae zooxanthellae which provides some of their
nutritional requirements. They will also benefit from additional feedings
of microplankton or brine shrimp given to each individual of the colony.""
Cheers Mal...
I don't know why people are giving him a hard time. Took a long time to write that out for you all and he's 100% right. Everyone in this hobby appreciates sound advice. No one in this hobby wants to deal with jerks. There is a culture involved in this hobby built on mutual respect for helpful information. The point is successful reef keeping. If you are not participating in the culture, you really don't belong in the hobby or on the forums. Take your flaming and trolling elsewhere. No one wants to hear it. Thanks for posting this. I appreciate the info.
we actually turned off all the flow in our coral beds to get the shot :) It
was minutes before one of our shops came and picked up that scoly :) It is
actually a pellet, so it falls quickly...
Growth and colour difference seems great. They ware under t5 before. Just One month under Kessil Led light and they are doing great. Color has improved.
I'm already dosing my tank with Red Sea calcium, magnesium and alk and have
just started to dose this programme. I have a mixed reef. I was wandering
if I can mice the programme In With the calcium like the baling method u
described in one of your videos. ?
+BulkReefSupplyCom I'm using an iodine and calcium supplement but haven't noticed much of a difference. I've noticed nuisance algae has began to overwhelm some live rock my corals are growing on so I purchased Red Sea KH Coralline Gro and the product in this video in hopes that my corals will grow and maybe enhance in color
Hi, I have a question. I recently purchased the Reef Energy A&B and I have
been dosing it every morning. I also have a Sun Coral and I was wondering.
Will my Sun Coral benefit from Reef Energy A&B? If so, does its polyps need
to be extended in order to absorb the nutrients? Thank you in advance :)
+Mario Hernandez Yup! It will definitely benefit and it won't need to be open for the benefits. I wouldn't recommend it as the sole replacement for feeding that coral though. You'll still want to feed it meaty food items like shrimp. :)
It did amazing on my corals, i notice changes almost the next day, i stop
dozing it because i went for the Zeovit method, and i didn't want to mix
things, i gave it to a friend and he also got very good results.
I have a sps / lps mixed reef tank and I currently dose Marine Snow and
reef roids one time each a week, is it ok to continue dosing these coral
foods along with Reef Energy? Or is it not necessary?
+John Stone You should be totally fine continuing feeding those foods. :)
DIY Coral Dip (Kills AEFW, Montibranch's, Red Bugs and all other know pests)
This stuff is truly amazing costs pennies compared to the pet store bought stuff and works better. Some believe it kills the eggs and tests show treated corals ...
"Imidacloprid is highly toxic on an acute basis to aquatic invertebrates,
with EC50 values = 0.037 - 0.115 ppm. It is also highly toxic to aquatic
invertebrates on a chronic basis (effects on growth and movement):
NOAEC/LOAEC = 1.8/3.6 ppm in daphnids; NOAEC = 0.001 in Chironomus midge,
and NOAEC/LOAEC = 0.00006/0.0013 ppm in mysid shrimp. Toxicity to fish is
relatively low; however, the EPA has requested review of secondary effects
on fish with food chains that include sensitive invertebrates."
I have been using this for a few years now with great results also I farm
Corals for several California fish stores and online sites. I work with
several wholesalers and transhippers who all have moved to using this same
product in the last few years. My point here is this has become widely
accepted in the wholesale community and I suspect you will at some point or
already have purchased a coral treated with this product and do not know it.
Corals do not have a nervous system and are not harmed at all proof is in
the pudding so to say. You can look at my tank vids and threads at
fragroup.org. My growth, PE and color or amazing and I dip everything in
Bayer. You can also find an extensive thread on ReefCentral. Everybody is
entitled to their opinion I was very scheptical at first but after two
years use with no ill affects I have no doubt its safe.
I like your reef tank..beautiful...do you dip your live rock too when you
first got them from store? I'm setting up my 20g long reef..now is just
live sand and live rock.. cycling about a week..I'm thinking take them out
and dip the live rock and put them back before i add coral and fish..
please let me know if you have any thoughts.. thanks
So has anybody used this in fish only quarantine tanks to kill
cryptocaryon, oodinium, or brooklynella? There are copper resistant strains
of ich going around, could this be a viable alternative. Any idea about
residual effects on fish livers, kidnes, central nervous system?
I really like the technique.. I'm gonna plan for something similar... I'm
just not sure if I want a powerhead or something in with the medication for
some water movement? I just need to get some containers like you have! Now
I have plans for my weekend!
Just used this DIP. Never seen so many dead critters on the bottom of my
container before. Amazing. That revive I was using wasn't doing anything.
I'm using this from now on. I'm convinced! I used 16ml into 1 gallon of
saltwater.
if i am not mistaken, that Bayer bottle contains imidacloprid...a highly
toxic neurotoxin affecting the central nervous system. i don't think i will
be putting any of those "washed" corals in my tank.
what are you doing at 4:00 after the 15 minutes later? what kind of water
is in the other containers? I want to do this myself and don't want to do
something wrong....
can you use it for zoa too? how about softy, thanks
