I got to say thank you for this. I've recently got a sewing machine for a
Diwali gift from my husband and wanted to make sheets for my daughter's bed
as finding fitted sheets in the stores were impossible given the size. Now
thanks to this video I can make her ones out of our old sheets and new
fabric with patterns she likes.

OMG this is awsome. I don't use the flat sheet and I end up donating it to
goodwill or give it to friends. I make my own pillowcases, so I think I can
incoroprate your instructions into making ones out of fabric. Posting this
to my pinterest page!!!!!
+Liong Linawaty - I'm not sure...this video is for teaching how to modify an already sewn sheet. I'd check online for standard bed and sheet sizes to find the right dimensions.
hi I have not got the fabric yet.. I am needing to purchase the fabric but
all I seem to be able to purchase is 42" to 45" wide so i was asking you if
it was possible to stitch two together to make the width of a double size
flat sheet and how long would a double sheet need to be???? thank you so
much for answering my questions... Can you purchase wider Monster truck
fabric and ship it to me here in Ontario canada and if so how much would it
be??? ty
I think it's possible, but I would run this idea by the customer first to make sure she likes the idea of a seam running down the center. Nope, I don't have access to wider Monster Truck fabric. I'm betting that's going to be a novelty print that's only available in 44" wide yardage.
I truly understand about joining to pieces of fabric and ending up with
annoying seams but I am looking for Monster truck fabric and pretty sure it
will not come wider then 42-45" so not sure what to do for the customer to
make a double top sheet for them.. any suggestions?
thank you so much for working with me on this matter I appreciate it.. :)
So a customer brought monster truck fabric for you to make sheets? It's probably more designed to be the center section of a quilt. If they are insistent on it becoming sheets, I would stitch the pieces down the center, then overlock or zigzag to finish the raw edge, then fold it to one side and top stitch twice down the middle to secure it in place. Use thread that matches in color as close as you can and it will look pretty good and won't feel too rough on the wrong side.
You really don't want to seam two pieces of fabric together to make a top sheet. You will always have a seam down the middle and it will be distracting against your skin at night. Length is determined by how many yards (36") you buy. 105 inches / 36 = 2.9 yards so just buy three yards of extra wide fabric.
+Leah Day Thank you! I was unsure. I thought the seam was 1/2 and, since the elastic was narrow compared to it, I assumed it was 1/4. I'm making 5 of these (one for each child), so I want to make sure I get it right!
Glad I stumbled upon this tutorial! I've been wanting to make a sheet like
this for my toddlers but didn't really want to go at it blindly. Thanks for
posting! However, I would suggest sewing the closed seam and adding the
elastic later. Clip safety pins to each end of elastic to easily guide it
through one end and out the other. Takes away all the frustration of
desperately trying to avoid sewing the elastic to your sheet out of the
picture :-)
overlap the ends of the elastic?, I didn't get that part, so you put one big elastic all around the sheet or how are you gonna overlap the ends?. anyway I did as you recommend ( adding the elastic later ) and it work very well. Thank you for the tip :)
+Rachel Crosby so do you leave a little opening in the seam at the mark where the elastic suppose to go?

this sucks... i can't believe they put money into making these stupid
videos. Not because no one needs to know how to put a bed together but
because not enough information is provided in the "how to" process...
Everyone knows how to make a junky bed like she did in this video
Was looking for making the bed from scratch. I pull on the comforter and it
pulls the blankets and sheet underneath with it. Anther video gave me the
idea of tucking them further up towards the pillow. That should hold them.
this is lame!! i was looking for a video on how to make your bed look like
in the magazines, and this is just useless. i mean, making a simple bed is
pretty self explanatory...
ok does everyone one agree 50percent of these people were looking for a
perfect bed instead of a sloppy one and the other half is either dumb or in
love with leslie
so where are the pillows? Did she hide them under the bed or something. lol
Who needs a video to teach you how to throw a blanket on a bed. This made
me laugh.
then i'll be your first expandable henchmen who probably doesnt get payed

I've sewed for many years and worked with elastic at the waist of clothing
and necks. It is not hard to do, but sometimes it can get caught and
twisted. Have you tried only putting elastic on the corners? I have watched
several videos and wondered why people were not making french seems for the
corners, thanks for posting this, it lets me know I am not being too
picky...:-)
+Katie Pierce Hi Katie - It might work putting elastic only in the corners, but I like the safety factor of having the elastic all the way around holding the sheet really snug to the mattress. Truthfully - on this project I wouldn't mind a twist or two as I work the elastic around the sheet. It is very narrow elastic and we don't need to worry about having a "lumpy" twist of elastic. I like the way you think!! Happy Sewing - Cindy
+Shazma Sajid Hi Shazma - Thank you! It comes with years of practice!!! Although if you follow the directions step by step it should be an easy project for you too! Happy Sewing - Cindy
Thank You Cindy for this awesome tutorial. I have shied away from doing

My SO and I couldn't find outer space sheets anywhere and he suggested we

+Christie Rine Hi Christie - I'm just trilled you were able to make the sheets that you wanted. I'm glad you found the video helpful!!!! Happy Sewing - Cindy
This was a great tutorial! I made my first ever crib sheet and it fit
perfectly. I am not an experienced sewer. I do have a question about the
next one I plan to make. The company I am ordering my fabric from only
offers fabric in 42" w instead of 45". How will this affect my crib sheet?
What can I do to make sure it fits properly?
+Pickle Jean Hi Pickle Jean - It is one of those things ... 45" wide fabric (what it has always been called) has universally decreased to be between 42 to 43 inches. This tutorial has taken that into consideration and you are OK. So glad you enjoyed the tutorial - Happy Sewing - Cindy
great video I love watching and learning sewing techniques,This gives me
some ideas,Kinda would have liked to see the finale which it would have
been placed on the mattress but I get its true purpose,Most folks may grin
a bit because I am a guy that enjoys sewing, : ) great video
+Marksmanbbs Hi Mark - I have a lot of men who subscribe to my channel and enjoy sewing -that makes me very happy. I'm very glad you enjoyed the video. Happy Sewing - Cindy
