Most fitness certifications describe the gastrocnemius as a 2 joint muscle and the soleus as a 1 joint muscle - however both of these muscles insert as the ...
I really like your ideas, but you DO call it "evidence based", and so
you've set a high bar to clear. I haven't heard or read of such a division
within the Achilles tendon, however an in vitro study by Lee and Piazza
(2008) described that in subtalar neutral, both heads of the gastrocnemeus
and the soleus have a moment arm for inversion, and that the subtalar joint
needs 15 degrees of eversion (which is the extreme end range for most
healthy people) until the lateral head of the gastrocnemeus develops a
moment arm for eversion. Because the insertion of the Achilles tendon is
less than two cm in diameter in most adults, I think a division in the of
the Achilles tendon such as you describe would not cause a substantial
frontal plane moment arm difference between the gastroc and soleus even if
the is such a division. I still would like to see your evidence supporting
this claim, however.
