+Luan Kleingeld eish dude dont get met started on that topic. So sad and true. Eurovision is so massive and its the cheapest way for an afrikaanse pop artist to get a number 1 song. Its a very lazy and zero creative approach to music. But then again it is a business and where there's music, there's notes....and bank notes :) some people are in if for the money and others for the passion....I always say songs are like cars, we need them....you get dealerships that sell cars to make millions and they dont care about the cars, others care about the cars, they dont sell that much, but its all about the car :) But afrikaans pop and music is getting better, it wont be too long until our songs are getting translated into english hits! Imagine, Nicholis Louw writing the new One Direction single. Its possible :)
+bouwerbosch I get what you are saying and I totally agree with you. I think I might have been slightly angry when I wrote this a while ago and it was misdirected at you. I wrote the comment at a time when me and some of my friends were discussing how sad it is that A LOT of Afrikaans pop songs are copies of bad European pop songs. I read somewhere that a lot of artists buy the rights from Eurovision artists and then barely change the lyrics, they just translate it. I know it's not the case with your music so I apologise. Also happy to find out there are more Listener fans out there :)
+Luan Kleingeld hey Luan!! DUDE YOU HAVE NO IDEA!! I'm the biggest Listener fan ever. I spoke to Dan Smith(vocalist) 2 years ago to see if I can get them to tour here, he is such an awesome dude, unfortunately budget was an issue. My poem was definitely inspired by them. I wont say its plagiarism at all. It might have similar themes here and there but Nirvana and Foo Fighters had alot of the same themes in there songs so its like saying Dave Grohl plagiarised from Nirvana, or saying Van Coke Kartel plagiarised from Fokofpolisiekar....its all about being inspired and learning from other artists. Listener is not the first band to do what they do. Slampoetry and stuff like that has been around long before Listener. Mozart and Beethoven and all those dudes learned and took pieces from one another. Its human, thats how we create, we see or here something and we aspire to do something like that. There is a really awesome book that I read called "Steal like an artist" - and its about how nothing is original anymore in the arts/music and thats because eveyone does a different version of what everone else is doing, its a pretty awesome read, I spoke to Hunter Kennedy about it as well, he also has awesome views on this topic. But I'm glad to see there are more Listener fans out there :)
