The minders here seem abusive. The way they are laughing, as if they are drunk or high, is no way to treat a baby. And the way the baby chimp swipes at them, sort of half fearfully and half angrily, suggests that they have previously abused him. A kid that small doesn't have that sort of fearful, distrustful approach to "adults."

This is so distressing. You know what it's trying to do? It's trying to cling to it's mother the way it would in the wild until it's 7 years old. The way it keeps putting it's mouth over the buttons.. it's probably looking for somewhere to feed. This is abuse. Do you know that it's mother was probably killed so that you could keep this baby? A mother chimp would never let it's baby go. You should be so ashamed. It won't be long before this baba is too big and powerful for you.. they are incredibly strong animals. And you know what will happen next? It'll go to a 'sanctuary' - except it won't, because they're full, so it will end up in a zoo. Or most likely, a research lab. Open your eyes, though i'll be surprised if they haven't been ripped off by now.

Living things don't evolve to get more and more "advanced". Sometimes, useful features are lost simply because they're not needed (that is, individuals that have a weaker, less functional version, or even lack the feature entirely, can still reproduce and pass on the lack or weakness of that feature).Humans walk upright because it was advantageous (produced a higher probability of producing offspring) during the time our ancestors developed the trait. We have thumbs because we're fucking monkeys. And we're this smart because some mutation destroyed a gene that inhibited brain growth (larger brains require more protein to build and more fuel to run, and are a waste of resources that can get you killed if the resulting intelligence doesn't balance out the loss).Now I know I got a lot of the details wrong here. But if you actually care to know, why don't you just look it up? Because if you actually investigate it, you'll find that it DOES make sense.

Chimps arent pets. But they can be companions. You have to have a lot invested in them for getting one to be a good idea. All the stress, responsibility, training, and hundreds of thousands of dollars thats needed to give a chimp a good life outside if the wild is for a rare kind of person. They would need more attention than a child, because theyll need ut for their entire lives. If youre rich and want one, think about it for a few years. Make sure you want that lifestyle. Then seek consultation from a professional. Fuck all these people saying they simply belong in the wild. Yes, compared to the care most dimwitted onwers provide their pets, any kind of animal is a bad pet. But at least recognize the abilities of a chimp. They can adapt and learn new social nuances fast. Given the resources I listed above, a chimp could be very happy outside of the wild. Too bad not many people understand being a parent for an animal.

Keeping chimps as pets is dangerous because of the POTENTIAL for attack, as chimps CAN be very aggressive, but in the hands of a professional who knows what precautions to take things are generally less bleak. Chimps are wild animals but they aren't monsters.

Im not going to be an idiot and say this chimp is going to attack because of that one news story, but its just wrong to keep a chimp as a pet (or any of the great apes). Also eventually its going to be too dangerous to take care of and youre either going to keep it in a cage or give it to someone who will just keep it in a cage.
