Quail season Sep 2015
Belle my pro irish setter.
Roosters 12 and 13 of 2015 Season and Limit of Quail.
After being skunked the weekend before, I scratch out two roosters and 10 quail this trip. Took 4 hours, only an hour for the quail but I covered a lot of ground ...
Nice work! I'm a little jealous honestly, I did pretty good this week on
both pheasants and ducks, as well as a goose. Unfortunately the only thing
I got on camera was a single rooster, the waterproof latch on my camera
broke, and it might be another week before I can get a replacement part.
Well my mistake was only quail hunting her until she was 5. Where I used to live in north Idaho that's all there was. Considering how late she started, Id say she is doing pretty good.
That's awesome! As stubborn as my dog can be I was pretty proud of her this week as well. she is fairly small, and usually is shy about retrieving anything larger than a drake mallard, but on Saturday she swam into the middle of the payette river after a giant goose (which was kicking and pecking her the whole time) and brought it all the way back. I think the best retrieve she has ever had. I was really disappointed I didn't have my camera for it.
+The Idaho Outdoorsman Well I'm extremely embarrassed to say I failed to charge my battery after the Thanksgiving hunt and couldn't turn my camera on yesterday and Jim and I shot 4 pointed rooster without any footage. Jim got one and I got my three. I only took Copper and Bella, brother and sister from the same litter and I'm still at awe of the whole hunt. Copper pointed three and Bella pointed one. She got to the bird she pointed and plucked the heck out of it but abandoned it when I called Copper and my buddy's dog back so she could have a chance. So far she as only retrieved quail for me and when she is by herself. More work to go with her. One of the roosters copper pointed was in sage bush, locked solid and I walked up and could see the roosters head and Bella came in and honored the point. As I didn't have Clover the Vizsladore, I had to step on the sage to get it out. Copper almost caught it. My dogs get points all the time, it's just that no one can see them in weeds and the roosters get up when the movement and noise stops. So I can feel you pain. At least we have our built in memory chip. Before falling a sleep last night I relived each point in my head just to keep imprinted. Jim and I will talk about if for years, specially since the rooster he shot yesterday was the second of the season and I was standing right beside him and gave him the shot and it only took him one. He was thrilled.
+ThunderMountain Tactical It was a good day, perfect weather and my buddy got his first rooster of the season and I got my three roosters and some quail. Another 4+ hour hunt. The video is loading now. Two of my dogs had a head on collision going after a running rooster, I got hung up in the fence and landed on my bag o birds. I was pretty tired and clumsy but it was worth it. Hope you get out this weekend.
