The video is pretty informative about Kwanza andHannukah, but what's the
point of worshiping pagan gods, I mean do you really think that Odin and
his blonde tressed goddess living in a gothic palace among the clouds,
hanging out with Thor and his hammer, that all these things actually exist?
What about the northern pagans' human sacrifices, which were documented
through the centuries?
Christianity has been an integral part of European culture for nearly two
millennia, it is a *progress* over the primitive pagan cults. And while it
did absorb many of their rituals (thanks for the informative rundown in
this video btw), it does not follow the central beliefs. And no, it is not
a Jewish invention, that's why there is a war on Christmas and films like
Rogen's debasing christmas traditions.
Merry Christmas and a happy new year. ;)
+Jade ShieldI fully agree with you... even though I am raised as RC, I admire pre-Christian myths and legends because they tell you more about that specific nation than that "general" religion. ( of a certain origin)
+Citadin you don't get it if you think paganism or Norse myth is about "worshiping" Odin. none of it is about "worship." typical Christian thing to say, that your ancestors were savages with no morals, values or honor. you call them "primitive" which means you know nothing about their accomplishments. shame on you! go learn about your own people, if you're white. Jews are an integral part of Christianity...it's undeniable. you can try and squirm out of it all you want but it's a fact. face the fact that your ancestors were not Christian until 1700 years ago. your own people were skinned alive to accept Christ but it sounds like you're ok with that. go learn something before you open your mouth and spout such garbage about paganism.
+Citadin Yes, I can confirm, that many old "local" traditions have been integrated into Christianity and it is well so. because human faith and beliefs cannot be abruptly changed, it has continuity over time. In my country even the name "karácsony" was taken over (and remained) from the old religion. (HU) It means releasing the falcon (kerecsen) as symbol of rebirth of the light... And to your remark "progress" : I agree it generated a different approach to god, to other humans, to moral, etc. I am RC, however I don't believe all folks ended in hell, before Christianity... :)
The First Hanukkah (December 164 BCE)
Antiquities 12.7.6-7 316-325 (1 Maccabees 4:36-59)
And so Judah and his fellow citizens celebrated the festival of the
restoration of the sacrifices of the Temple for eight days, and omitted no
sort of pleasure, but everyone feasted upon very rich and splendid
sacrifices; and they honoured God, and delighted themselves with psalms of
praise and the playing of harps. Indeed, they were so very glad at the
revival of their customs and, after so long a time, having unexpectedly
regained their right to worship, that they made it a law for their
posterity that they should keep a festival celebrating the restoration of
their Temple worship for eight days. And from that time to this we
celebrate this, which we call the Festival of Lights [phôta], because, I
imagine, beyond our hopes this right was brought to light [phanênai], and
so this name was placed on the festival. ......

+jindan kaur Hanukkah in the New Testament Did you know the New Testament mentions that Jesus observed Hanukkah? John 10:22 At that time the Festival of the Dedication took place in Jerusalem. It was winter, and Jesus was walking in the Temple, in the portico of Solomon.

Nice, I want to celerate Kwanzaa too. Do you know January 1, 1804 is
Haitian Independence day? We eat soup Joumou (Pumpkin Soup) every new year.
During the colonization period in Haiti, only the French masters would eat
this soup and forbid the slaves to ever have it. So, on January 1, 1804 to
really celebrate freedom, or express victory, the Emperor Jean Jacques
Dessalines advised his wife to cook and offer this soup to the former
slaves as a slap to the defeated masters.
