I know this is old but I'm using ms2extra on my 90 tsi. I need major help tuning I know my car is running okay and it makes power with nothing dangerous. Megasquirt is a serious learning curve over ecmlink if you could I'd like to go over things with you. I only want help from some one who's tuned 4g63 motors with megasquirt. I was going to go with some one from the ms forums but 250 bucks and no experience in anything dsm related is sketchy for me.

+bubbinator88 Sure, and I'm happy to help along the way if you run into problems, but it sounds like you got her going.

+bubbinator88 Hey. Honestly, your best bet is to find a tuner with a dyno. It may cost $500 for the session, but that is the way to get the best power... preferably a steady state dyno so the tuner can tune each cell individually.I don't think I'm your guy for it... I've only street tuned this one car, and it did pretty well but was far from perfect.I'd suggest either continuing on with DIY tuning... using the logging and scatter plots to find areas in the table where you are lean or rich and modifying. Second to that, find a tuner with a dyno. Most cars act about the same, so DSM experience might not be required, as long as they watch for knock and keep the boost and RPMs reasonable for the build strength.

Did you know the original OEM GM TPI temp sensors were not the same part? The one for the intake air temp had a caged tip where you could see the thermistor inside. I guess the conducted heat from the plenum being part of the sensors output is tolerable. Other cars have the air temp sensor out in the ducting.

+Evan5659Yes my diesel had the open type.

I am aware of that actually.  The open frame ones are better for forced induction systems, since they react more quickly to the higher rate of temperature change when the air is compressed.  NA applications can use either.  I just bought one, I had trouble finding an open frame at the junk yard.  Look for diesels, they have them.

I may go down this path on a project soon. So I will be anticipating your next update.

+mweverett Some folks have put the tablet behind the stock gauge bezels for classic cars... just a thought.  As for making your own boards... I see the draw, but I don't ever plan to.  B&G put a lot of effort into making those boards rock solid under poor electrical conditions, and that is not a lesson I want to learn on the side of the road.  Keep in mind also that both the MS schematics and the MS software are licensed only for use on official MS hardware.  So, if you want to drop in a more powerful chip and port the code, that is technically not allowed.  Seems pretty annoying, but I'm sure they have good reasons.  Not to discourage you.  I always thought the parallax propeller would make an excellent ECU, especially once the prop 2 comes out.  Maybe some day.

+Evan5659Not the andriod dash, I like it and all but its a classic car so that would be out of place. I was more interested in the tuning. I have thought about a re do of MS using a better newer processor, and laying out the oft used mods on the board , since that is my thing. But alas no time. So I will do the control in MS for now.

Megasquirt, android dash, or both?  I think the next vid will hopefully be about tuning idle, then on to real tuning.  Anything you want to see in particular?
