THE MOST IMPORTANT QUESTION IS : when will we see actual implantation , real application , real marketing of these products so that humanity will benefit it ?????
https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-c-5BQrUlNe0/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAALg/viC4t5azZsk/photo.jpg?sz=64
+rkshirey This strategy has been implemented for many years.
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XdUIqdMkCWA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/4252rscbv5M/photo.jpg?sz=64
Torque and overall power are two different things.  Give me long enough of a prybar and I could generate more torque than either with my bare hands but I would generate a hell of a lot less power than both.  The length of the components give pretty darn good leverage but take up a lot of space, too much space to be practical in many applications.  Scale one down to the size of a modern combustion engine and the torque would be reduced significantly.  Scale up the cylinders of a conventional engine and the torque would be similar. Engines that "turn off" or unload cylinders are already a thing.  They are used in larger/more powerful vehicles where there is an actual advantage and/or the customer is willing to pay.  They aren't cheap. If these engines were better than what we have now then they would still be in use.  They were not some hidden tech.  These were the first internal combustion engines and were widely used.  I think that they are interesting and provide a wonderful insight into the history of engines but they are not superior to the modern stuff. The use of flywheels as a means to store energy is intriguing but presents real engineering challenges when one wants to use it to meet the power demands and space limitations of most applications today.  There is a very nifty product by Caterpillar for use in critical power applications (applications where even a momentary loss of electrical power would be disastrous.  The flywheel stores enough kinetic energy that it can be converted to enough electrical power to be able to supply demand until the generator can start.  There are other more traditional ways to serve this same function as well.  Which method is best is a whole other discussion though.Flywheels still intrigue to this day and will undoubtedly be revisited from time to time but the old one cylinder hit and miss engine is likely consigned to history.

+Chris P For the torque per pound at low rpm they are actually much more efficient. We could benefit from their core functions. Imagine car engines "turning off" cylinders when not in use being a regular thing.
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XdUIqdMkCWA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/4252rscbv5M/photo.jpg?sz=64
+rkshirey These engines were useful for their time and were the basis for modern internal combustion engines.  They are not better than modern designs.  They produce far less power than engines of the same mass and are less efficient as far as power to fuel efficiency goes.  They were amazing developments for their day.  One can see the bridge over from steam engine tech and internal combustion engines.  I love the old things for that reason.

We benefited from these for about 150 years. Now it's all about when we bring them back.

Batteries and coils were used prior to low tension ignition systems, but because batteries werent always available, self contained ignition systems like the ek mag and mags like the webster tri polar oscillator were developed. Basically the micro switch is the trip ignitor. Nice simple setup and is dependable untill the battery runs low,,then it just stalls since it has no way of developing any or a strong enough spark to ignite the fuel.

Sure you can, simple test is to hook it up to a spark plug and ground it then trip the magneto,if you dont see a spark,or its a weak spark the you need to backtest everything starting with the plug, the wire, the ground, the two pass through coils, the lead outs, the condensor, the points and the magnet. All the items are testable and repairable or replaceable.

,, almost everything electrical now has a micro switch in it now, microwave oven, washing machine, clothes dryer, the last hospital bed motor unit I took apart had eight high quality switches in it,, big office type copiers,,, even the on off button on this computer i'm using has a micro switch inside the case,,,

I replaced a switch just like that on the lid of Maytag washer. Also I have some of those switches I replaced on my actuator on my solar tracker. So Im familiar with the micro switch. I guess they have many uses and they come in real handy.

So it's a home made set of points. I once put a set of 62 chev 6 cycl points in a 65 honda 90 trail bike ran pretty good. Honda had no more points for that model of bike. So some times you got to do what you got to do to make it work.....

I have a 3 hp M that was my Uncle's. It is missing the mixer (3 needle). I put some fuel directly into the intake and it fired so I'm trying to find a mixer. Can you help? ([email protected])

,,, if you watch the "baling wire engine" series you will see a step by step way that I grease the whole engine,,, the answer is a grease cup on the end of the crankshaft,, thanks,

Is there a way to bench test the mag , or rebuild a mag and then test it ,i see what you be doing run the engine with a known source of ignition. i like the videos , nice work.

If you did not have a mag, would it hurt anything to run a engine this way? Can't wait to see next video! Thanks Sam.
