damn, they came real close to crashing, I was half expecting the truck to hit them. I used to see the hot air balloons all the time over Wavell Heights, but what idiot would fly one anywhere near the bridge -.-.

It isn't as if you can just fly wherever you like in a hot air balloon - you really are at the mercy of the wind, and the frequency (or paucity) of good landing sites along the path you travel.

Regardless of the balloon, should've been built as a tunnel, never a bridge in that location.

Die Luftbrücke war offenbar einer der größten Propaganda-Bluffs aller Zeiten. Die Gesamtmenge der von Briten und Amerikanern transportierten Lebensmittel betrug nach den Daten von www.alliiertenmuseum.de/themen/berliner-luftbruecke.html umgerechnet (dort wird - zufällig oder um die Zahlen zu schönen?? - mit amerikanischen short tons zu 907 kg gerechnet) 487.980,512 t. Die Luftbrücke dauerte insgesamt 323 Tage. Das macht durchschnittlich 1510,775579 t pro Tag. Die Bevölkerung von Westberlin betrug damals 2, 2 Millionen Menschen ( https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Berliner_Luftbr%C3%BCcke), es wurden also durchschnittlich rund 0,687 kg (687 Gramm) Lebensmittel pro Person und Tag eingeflogen. Trotz der in der Stadt für 36 Tage vorhandenen Lebensmittelvorräte (am angegebenen Ort) dürfte das kaum den Kalorienbedarf der Bevölkerung gedeckt haben. Es spricht daher alles dafür, dass sich die Bevölkerung trotz der Hetze gegen die SBZ im Umland versorgte.
