So this movie claims you can convert to E85 without changing parts. If it's that easy why don't I see people doing it?

OF COURSE I'M GOD!!!! MEET YOUR MAKER!! BWAHAHAHAHAHA!

+VeilStig Key word is not "claims", it's "shows specifically in details" (if you had watched the documentary). The answer to "why dont I see people" is, do you claim to see everyone everywhere all the time, do you hang out in every garage in the nation ? What are you, God ?

the govt is designed and controlled by lobbying in the US and most of the leaders in the govt have a vested interest in keeping oil as the primary source for transportation fuel. Lobbying to make gas station carry E85 and recharges has been systematically denied.

There are blogs out there of people who are documenting their trials of using E85 without changing a thing on their cars and so far so good. Ideally you do need a small tweek to the ECU because the combustion rate of E85 and air fuel !mixture is different so the amount the fuel injectors squirt in as well as the timing would need to be altered. .. Which can be fixed with a plug in part. it just alters the ECU.. However, many modern ECUs already have the data in them to run e85 (because the ECUs are mass produced) on the right settings as a Flexfuel vehicle is able to detect what fuel you're using and switch the setting automatically.. however these setting have been disabled in the ECU and all you have to do is hook it up to a computer and check Flexfuel yes√ ... Another reason is there we're STILL battling the effects of the prohibition to this day. the reason the prohibition was spurred was to demonize the oil competition. Which is the same reason marijuana was demonized. marijuana used to be widely used in medicines and clothing and paper. but one guy wanted to use trees instead. which was a much more expensive and environmentally hurtful. but he had a vested interest in it and so got marijuana demonized and criminalized. ... And we'll be reeling from those I'll effects for hundreds of years to come. Ford made the combustion engine to run off of moonshine so farmers could make their own fuel. Rockefeller did not like that. Even today car manufacturers are so intertwined with the oil companies that they discourage innovation to the detriment of the masses and the world .. even so far as to purposefully make their flexfuel labeled cars more expensive (despite them being no different than the same model w.o the FF label except the ECU is setting is turned off) .. these car companies even purposefully design their ECU setting to make sure when the ECU senses e85 is being used it will get very very bad milage.

After watching this movie, I wonder, Who is in charge here? The government or the oil corporations? It is a shame that the USA government let it come this far. It is time to change this fuel problem.

I have know this for some time, but it just always seems to amaze me how things got so out of control. It is sad but true.

Maybe someone can address this for me. This documentary was very insightful towards alternatives in the fuel industry. So Ive been digging all morning about Ethanol and came to this crazy thinking. Well for grand production of Ethanol we would need a high yield of corn. But in turn to grow high yields you would need more GMOs or insecticides, which ever is picked. So then you have the Monsanto debate of quality grown foods over insecticides that can trickle down throughout the environment and poison people and wildlife and reach the oceans where they destroy to O2 levels and eventually the fish. So then, is it me or is the real solution to everything harmful have to start with depopulation. Obviously as we have grown we have only destroyed the environment around us. Im no leftest environmental guy, hippi whatever, but Im just seeing a grand cause and effect. And if we fix one thing then we have to destroy something else. Its fucked up for sure.

This Doc has created so many comments. Many valid. Many outrageous and totally ignorant. (those comments on youtube). They call the Doc Propaganda among other slanderous comments. Jason Bateman did an excellent job Directing this film. Unfortunately, change scares alot of people. Especially those who benefit from the old dirty business of fossil fuels.

+The Breeze Breezy TODAY, all that cut grass people throw out after mowing can be put to good use.  Still; no need to be rude to gtguy181. He gave an example of a plausible consequence of expanding the use of methanol for fuel. And his example is 100% correct. He never said it had to be strictly corn, he did say that the expansion of methanol will mean the expansion of the use of fertilizers which rather you like it or not, will increase runoff to the oceans.  Truth is everything has a consequence. When Rockefeller expanded the use of oil in America and the world, global warming was an unforeseen consequence of the expansion at the time. Some foresaw it, but there was little evidence of the true impact that would entail.  There is surely unforeseen consequences in the expansion of methanol engines, but maybe it's worth it. I do think it's worth a try.

+gtguy181 I will not resort to calling you names because you are more than likely having enough trouble struggling through life with your limited intelligence. To directly address your concerns: like it states in the PUMP documentary ethanol can be made from almost any plant eg. the prickly pear cactus which will grow in places were nothing of any food value will grow and because it is hearty and the appearance of the plants is not an issue no insecticides are necessary. It is not up to the public to make their own ethanol (actually illegal because it involves making alcohol oil companies made sure of this a long time ago) like the example of Brazil in the documentary it is up to the government to implement a plan to give people a choice at the pump. Also are you forgetting about the pollution that fossil fuels put into the environment not to mention the oil spills toxic waste from refining etc arguably the biggest destructive pollutant we are facing. Still have a hard time believing you watched the PUMP did you dose off?
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XdUIqdMkCWA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/4252rscbv5M/photo.jpg?sz=64
I did watch it dip shit. Obviously you addressed nothing of what I said, you basically restated something in the movie that was 5min. And yea no shit it doesnt have to be corn, basically anyone can do it in their backyard, if they take the time and science to do that, which wont happen.
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XdUIqdMkCWA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/4252rscbv5M/photo.jpg?sz=64
+gtguy181 I will address it for you first of all watch the documentary before you comment (love people who post uninformed shit) It does not have to be corn and even when it is no food is lost to the process of making the ethanol that is just propaganda from the oil companies ethanol can be produced from almost any plant methanol can be made from garbage try to be informed before you discourage great ideas !!!!!!
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-vgXBsXkIY5g/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAHSw/BS-LAkfRLF8/photo.jpg?sz=64
+Robinson Ray again. Facts. Only an 1/8 of the corn produced in the US is consumed in the US. What's your dig on Methanol and Bio-Diesel. Left those two out. David Rockefeller, Warburg's, Rothschild's are all EVIL! If they have their way. And they will. You'll be fucked out of your retirement, sitting in a Internment/Work Brigade facility working and living there till your dead.

+gtguy181 You are 100% right i am glad you see the future context of present actions. This documentary makes John Rockefeller seem like an evil guy but many people can't see CONTEXT. When Rockefeller was on top, electric cars were inhumane; why? Most electricity at the time ran on fuel that came from extremely dirty coal factories and mines, they had breaker boys working in those factories, child labor in the USA, many many workers got lung cancer...gas ignites in your engine and fumes left to the air but coal factories burned smoke inside! The other alternative? Ethanol? Well in Rockefellers time many Americans were starving, food really was in short supply, we did not have the huge surpluses of today. Mothers were loosing teeth because they were not getting enough milk! Methanol fuel was burning up fuel supply that would otherwise go to feed a cow to produce milk that would in turn feed the mothers! Also; people at the time did not know what global warming or green peace was. This documentary made Rockefeller seem like the devil but it ignored context of the times. I told a friend an example; what if in 30 years we get a president who puts solar panels over every roof, millions in the desert and to replenish the rest of the market with energy he makes a couple dozen nuclear power plants [which btw is one of the cleanest sources of energy that takes up little space, and it is 100% clean, it's chimney only spews steam only dirty part is a little nuclear waste which is stored]. That president is hailed as a green movement titan! But 300 years later nuclear waste has accumulated and his infrastructure expired, and some nuclear waste leaks and leaved parts of the earth uninhabitable. Well in that time period people might make him out to be the devil.
