Many thousands of perfectly good cars were scrapped, replaced by new cars that have computers that have been proven to be open to being hacked into, even driven remotely, AND, while the economic crisis has deepened, removing many perfectly serviceable autos from the used car market, the only market that many people who NEED cars to replace the one that died can afford, for instance Walmart employees in the semi-rural US south where there is no public transportation, making good quality used cars more expensive.
