Well.... They are saying. WHAT IF WE TOLD YOU... FERRARI BORROWS TECHNOLOGY FROM CADILLAC. Well... Ferrari doesnt do that. What they are refering to is the god damn Magneride PIONEERED BY CADILLAC. Yeah... Which means Cadillac was first to put it into cars. And based on the TINY fact that Ferrari employs a similar system (so do many others). they are claiming equality to Ferrari by this association. Based on that they both use GMs suspension technology. Delphi used to be... way back... one of GMs many hundreds of subcontractors. That does not make their stuff GM property. This idea that Ferrari calls GM for parts. The very nature of what they are doing, is called "claiming equality by association" or Ambush Marketing is the technical term. Look it up on Wikipedia. Its got nothing to do with hate or conspiracy. Its called... Marketing. And nobody does it with more aggression and hostility as americans. They use of a "slower" Ferrari and say "What if we told you...." its extremely misleading and actually illegal in the real world. -This is exactly like when Corvette started using Brembo brakes. GM went to Brembo in Italy and insisted on getting the SAME brakes as the much older Enzo. Why? To claim equality to Ferrari by approximation. By using the same brakes. To borrow some of that Ferrari magic. Search for Cadillac CTS-V vs Ferrari 458 and see them claiming equality to the best sportscar in the world. There is nothing repsectful or realistic about it. No shame. Just FULL of hostility, wild claims and what I refered to as Ambush Marketing (also has its own Wikipedia article) Cadillac are fairly open about buying BMWs and using them as targets for their next models but they are also saying they have to stop making cars that way. Always playing catchup while BMW still owns the market.

So far as I know they've only explicitly mentioned BMW in antagonistic fashion with the new ATS. So? That's the target, everyone knows it. (There was a CTS-V commercial that mentioned BMW and Mercedes but did so respectfully. And that was a better Nurburgring lap time not just a straight line, a legitimate achievement with far more development than dropping in a Corvette motor.) Cadillac is focused on a couple of products and puts the money, manhours, and materials there, to great effect.

Search for "GM becoming China Motors" right here on Youtube and see if you can name ONE GM sold in Europe or Asia today that isnt a rebadged Korean Daewoo. See if you can name ONE internationally competitive US built GM from this decade or the last. I think reality..... Is a fair bit worse than you guys are willing to realise. Delphi was not just one of hundreds of subcontractors, they were PART of GM until spun off just two years before Magneride hit the market. Rage rage rage you're all alone champ. Nobody believes the ridiculous inferences you're making to the womblike degree of naivete you're pounding the desk about. BTW, chrome plating doesn't add 5 Kg, and if you're "out of power" your shocks simply take a base comfort setting, you don't "got no suspension." You don't know cars, so quit blithering.

This 'consolidation' of platforms is going to result in killing off the last Australian cars, thanks very much GM global platforms. The last Holden Commodore, once rebadged as Pontiac G8 and now again as the Chevrolet SS, will be built in 2017, then the plant in Australia betooled for boring global platforms. And anyone wanting a large RWD sedan will miss out, what is left in the GM stable, the crappy FWD Malibu? Or under-engineered Opel Insignia? No thanks.

Great segment Jim - There are so many over-styled, substance-free, veneer-thin and over baked designs on the market at this point that for someone to come along with a modern interpretation of simple, angular Bauhaus minimalism would be a revelation. Audi might have a couple cars that fit this but the flame surfacing trend started by Bangle has spread like a weed to just about every design house.

When Corvette ZR1 adopted carbon fiber brakes, they did point out to the press that they came from the Enzo. But no rational person would use that fact to claim Ferrari was using GM technology. Nobody jumps to the conclusion that the ZR1 is exactly like a Ferrari, either. Do you realize how raving you sound?

Nice show format. Definitely agree with DeLorenzo. Watching Cadillac chase the Germans for street cred is pointless, and it muddles Cadillac's brand image. They need to do their own thing, and create new value-propositions and marketing concepts to shift the market.

Caddy delaying an ATS Coupe, wagon, or Convertible. As a serious global luxury brand, anything but rescheduling product is a bad move. To compete, you have to at least do most of what the competition is doing at least as well to tie and better to win. The CTS Coupe came a bit after the current CTS. I think the CTS Wagon is/would be stronger in Europe than the US. Also Diesel! Going Global means US sells isn't the only factor and so justifying more and varied product.

...Cars take years to go from planning to production. For a GM executive to say the company doesn't know how it will execute its plan to roll out variants of the ATS at this point in time clearly suggests that while the variants may have been planned, and even designed and ready for production, the decision as to when it will launch those variants is still up in the air. We said the ATS coupe is on hold. Nothing David Caldwell has said contravenes that statement.

I've came to the conclusion that GM likes playing the bluffing game. Remember statements from them saying the ATS and XTS wouldn't be competitive? Remember they said the ATS would weigh 3600lbs and they were having "mass issues" with the platform? Hahaha! I bet we see every variant.
