If it weren't bad enough that this video is advertisement propaganda bullshit, there are tons of comments praising how "true" it is. No one in education (I'm a high school teacher who has worked with MANY special needs directors, assistants and students) would argue that no incompetent people exist in the profession. To suggest that what this video is satirizing represents a majority is simply dishonest. In my several years of experience, I've seen far more of the exact OPPOSITE of what's seen here. School officials are begging parents to have their kids tested so they can get the services they need and parents don't answer/return calls, don't show up for IEP meetings, or simply refuse to have their children identified as having special needs because they're afraid of the stigma that comes with such an identification. This video is produced by Special Education Attorneys to encourage people to sue these departments in their kids school. I hope those of you singing praises to this trash realize what you're applauding.

I love that this comment is from a high school teacher - by the time the special needs kids reach high school, they should have already been identified as needing services and the needed interventions should have been implemented.  If they reach high school and have not yet received services, the interventions will be much less successful.

Dear Mr. GrappelingIgnorance: The children and parents of your district should be very grateful to have such dedicated special ed professionals and administrators on their side.  Because unfortunately, the reason that this video is so popular is because it rings so very true to parents across the country.  I sent the link to a mom who experienced first-hand the typical grueling, years-long battle of attrition to get her child the accommodations and services that she needed, and the mom replied that the video made her laugh so hard that she wet her pants. It is brilliant satire of a universal truth that most parents of children with special needs experience.  Parents of your district excepted, of course.Naturally, the adults in our society--specifically, the parents of the children you serve--are very diverse in their own education, sophistication, financial means, intellect, emotional maturity, and mental health.  In addition, disabilities are often genetic, so kids with learning disabilities are often dependent on parents with disabilities to advocate for them.  But taxpayers pay quite a bit of their hard-earned money to teachers like you, and in return expect they expect you to do your very best with all kids and parents in whatever fortunate or unfortunate circumstances you happen to find them.  You are expected to understand and sympathize with the fact that parents may have hardships and difficulties that don't always let them be the ideal and dedicated parents that they wish they could be.   And we expect you to do it all with unwavering professionalism and a smile.  There are many fine teachers and administrators who love their students and strive to meet those challenges, and they deserve and receive our heartfelt gratitude.  To those who can't hack it, however--like you, perhaps?--please, do everyone a favor and get a different job.

Again, perhaps you need to be a parent of a child with special needs to see this side of the Special Education administrative staff.  I would not have believed it until I experienced it for myself.I cannot speak to the competence or the intention of the administrative staff of other school districts, but I also cannot deny the first hand testimony of other parents who have had similar experiences, backed up by the public records of due process hearings held in our state for violations of IDEA/FAPE. I am glad your experience with school officials has been the opposite.  There is always hope that their example will serve as an inspiration to other districts where the administrative staff is not as concerned.

I worked in the special needs department in one of the districts in Texas and this video is so ridiculous. We would gladly hold ARD meetings and such to make it possible to conduct the tests needed. Our district would even pay for a second opinion if it disagreed with what our district found. However, as you pointed out many parents would complain and argue but also refuse to sign the necessary forms or come to the meetings but still demand the help.

I would like to meet the specially education director this is based off of. I have never met a director like this in all my years in special education. Most are the exact opposite of this.
